This article is a review of a case report of a middle-aged man who suffered from memory loss that was caused by atenolol. It was easy to confirm the drug as causing memory loss as it was the only one he was using, and the adverse effect subsided after the drug was stopped. Atenolol is a drug in the class called beta-blockers, which are known to have numerous central nervous system side-effects, including depression, insomnia and disrupted sleep cycles, confusion, drowsiness, and hallucinations. Memory loss from beta-blockers may be rare but worth noting if memory loss is a concern and impairs your ability to function. Noteworthy is that common pharmacy reference materials actually list memory loss and confusion as a side-effect to all beta-blockers.
